Occupy Wall Street Is Not Stupid

Earlier today I was talking with someone today who exclaimed, "Occupy Wall Street, that's so stupid!". I then proceeded to explain to them that OWS is trying to say "hey, this capitalism thing isn't really working right now". It's not to say that capitalism never worked, it's just pointing out that there are some significant holes in it right now.

I believe that by now, most people (except some in Boulder) realize that communism has also failed. Now, communism didn't fail because God hates communists. It failed because it wasn't maximizing the total economic prosperity of all people. The people behind OWS have also realized [, I naively assume,] that capitalism in America is also no longer maximizing the total economic prosperity.

In America today you see thousands of families that incurred large amounts of debt to a disgustingly rich minority. This rich minority (an oligarchy) forced these families out of their homes and into slavery. You might recognize that this looks a lot like the economic system that capitalism replaced - feudalism.

OWS protesters are also crying out about the death grip that rich and powerful businesses have on our federal government. Some even claim that presidential elections are completely rigged (I probably wouldn't go that far). Either way, the government that our American forefathers created is completely absent and void from our current government. We've become so obsessed with being the most powerful country that we sacrificed the values and virtues that made us who we are.

The Occupy Wall Street movement is right, our system is broken. Yes, there are many broken systems out there, but that's not a reason to not change them. Protest is an important political mechanism that has been proven to work in the past. We need it to work now. The only problem I have with OWS is that it seems to be an incohesive jumble of complaints with no real answers. But I suppose that's where real change begins.

  1. That has probably have to be the most socialistic blog I have read by far. Except for some modern terms, it looks like it was torn straight from the "Communist Manifesto." Communism doesn't work, in fact communism is the main reason Greece has failed. You cannot have a working civilization where the government just "spreads the wealth" because sooner or later people realize; Hey, I don't have to work to get my "fair share." Which just so happens to validate that Capitalism truly works better, if you don't work you shouldn't eat. Now I'm going to assume that you'd say, " That's horrible that you'd expect mentally challenged, or handicapped people to work ", and that's exactly correct I do because I know that there many workplaces that base their companies off of using mentally challenged or disabled people as labour. The glue and hand sanitizing gel industries, to name a couple. Secondly, how is the "1 percent" to blaim for any of this, if you haven't noticed the majority of those evil-doers made the majority of their money in the stock market, which fell dramatically and a lot of those people lost a lot if not all of their life savings, but why is it that you hardly see them protesting about the wicked bankers, fat cats, or the most evil Conservatives. It's simply that they started over which seems to many impossible, but that's life I know it's rough but it won't change its ways even if you held a billion protests. Why point fingers at people do better off than you, why is it their fault that you can't handle your bills and CHOOSE to live beyond your means. People don't want to take responsibilities for their actions and try to find the easiest scapegoat. Then you speak of the grip that the big companies have on the government, if it's really that bad they have a grip then you'd think the government would just let them fail. I can see life now would be so much better with no corporations, almost has a 1980 Soviet Union effect to it. Thirdly, these values of our forefathers have nothing to do with OWS, they would be disgusted how the left is completely destroying the values and virtues that was originally established. Sorry I have ran long but in closing I do want to state that OWS is wrong on so many levels that it would take years to sort through, why have the values of hard work, etrepnenuership, and overall responsibility been pushed to the side. I can assure you of one thing, if the country keeps heading down the slippery spiral that is communism our country is surely doomed to the pages of failed countries in the history books.
